I am Rachel, the collections assistant intern at Kendal museum on the looking through a lens digitisation project. This is a two year project funded by a Heritage Lottery fund grant to digitally preserve three of its collections – two mineral and one herbarium. Due to their fragile nature these collections are currently inaccessible to the public but through digitalisation they will become available to a much wider audience.
My role as the collections assistant intern is to improve the storage and documentation of the collections as well assisting the digital imaging consultant with photography. I will also promote a better understanding of the collections being digitised, through assisting the Museum team to delivering a programme of events and outreach activities as well as writing about my experiences on this blog.
